Blood testing for fitness

Blood testing is a smart way of diagnosing diseases and health conditions that might be impacting your day-to-day life, but they are also an excellent method of helping you to take your health and fitness to new levels. A simple finger prick blood test for fitness can enable both elite athletes and people who want to manage their health and wellbeing proactively to understand the changes that they could make to help them improve their mental and physical performance, as well as reducing the risk of chronic disease in the future. When testing blood for fitness, we will look at many of the blood’s biomarkers.

Fitness Blood Testing

Your blood holds the key to your personal health and wellbeing plan. As well as helping you manage existing conditions, a blood test can help you to spot signs of health issues on the horizon. With over 70% of chronic diseases preventable, blood tests can act as an early warning system for heart or lung disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes.

When looking at blood testing for fitness, we also measure blood levels for optimisation. Often, blood tests are compared to ‘normal’ levels, but this is often relevant to current information that the lab has. Fitness blood tests measures blood for optimal levels

Blood Testing For Fitness

Where Blood Testing for Fitness differs from other blood testing is in the ranges that it measures your blood against. Looking at lipids (fats) within the blood, normal fasting triglycerides are considered to be under 150 mg/dL (1.7 mmol/L), however a triglyceride level of over 90 mg/dL (1.02 mmol/L) can show poor blood sugar control and excessive dietary carbohydrate or starch intake. A triglyceride level below 60 mg/dL (0.68 mmol/L) can show a low intake of healthy dietary fat or poor digestion and absorption of the fats that are essential for a healthy body. The optimal range lies between 50-90 mg/dL (0.56-1.02 mmol/L), which is very different from ‘normal’ ranges.

What Can Blood Testing for Fitness Show?

A Fitness Blood Test will help you to understand the current levels of the different elements in your blood, including both HDL and LDL cholesterol, but the Fitness Blood Test will also give you an overview of your blood health.

Your Fitness Blood Test will show your blood glucose, liver and kidney function, and lipid levels.

Testing Blood For Fitness

Using a blood test to test for fitness can help you to understand the small tweaks and changes that you can make to your diet, training and lifestyle in order to optimise your performance levels, whatever level you are trying to reach. This can be as important for an elite athlete training at Olympic levels as it is for a weekly runner who wants to take on a fun run.
